Norte de Santander sufre la desgracia de ser el único departamento del país en el que aún hacen presencia dos grupos armados ilegales que ya fueron eliminados de los demás rincones del país por las autoridades.
Aquí, en el área metropolitana de Cúcuta (Los Rastrojos) y en algunos municipios del Catatumbo (Los Pelusos), aún quedan vestigios de estos dos grupos que en ningún otro lugar del país lograron consolidar el poder y la riqueza que estas tierras les supo brindar.
Los Rastrojos, tras ser prácticamente aniquilados por las autoridades, otros grupos armados ilegales y sus miembros sobrevivientes puestos en prisión, lograron enquistarse en Puerto Santander, donde con la connivencia de las autoridades venezolanas montaron un imperio económico alimentado principalmente por el contrabando de gasolina y el tráfico de drogas. Allí, sin embargo, libran hoy una guerra a muerte con la guerrilla del Eln que de a poco los ha ido empujando hacia otras áreas de la zona rural de Cúcuta e, incluso, hasta algunos barrios de la ciudad. De esto, sin embargo, hablaré en otra columna.
Hoy, quiero dedicarme a Los Pelusos. Enfrascados en una guerra con el Eln y con su principal proveedor de recursos muerto, Los Pelusos empezaron una rápida expansión con el fin de copar nuevos espacios y reclutar cada vez más a jóvenes incautos que, seducidos por un arma, una moto y un sueldo paupérrimo, terminaron engrosando las filas de un grupo que ya iba en picada.
Con Megateo muerto y sin su máximo líder histórico, David León, preso en Medellín, Los Pelusos empezaron una guerra interna que terminó por debilitarlos. Después de Megateo, vinieron una serie de cabecillas que, sin embargo, no lograron cohesionar a los hombres bajo su mando, al punto de que, en un par de años, todos los que han llegado a este cargo han muerto o han caído en manos de las autoridades.
El último en ser capturado fue el que hasta el miércoles fungía como máximo líder de ese grupo armado, Richar Arley Díaz Garay, conocido como ‘Cóndor’, y quien había reemplazado a ‘Pácora’, muerto por las fuerzas armadas en septiembre de 2019.
Los Pelusos, con 385 integrantes, tienen como principal fuente de financiación el narcotráfico, los secuestros y el cobro de extorsiones a mineros, empresas de transporte y comercio, entre otros. Ahora, sin Cóndor, capturado en la vereda La Alejandra del municipio de Santiago, Los Pelusos seguramente empezarán una nueva purga interna que los debilitará aún más y les permitirá a las autoridades, y hasta al mismo Eln, seguir asestándoles golpes que, ojalá, al cabo de unos años, lleven a la desaparición de una estructura armada ilegal que no debería existir desde 1991.
