¡LLEGÓ DICIEMBRE CON SU ALEGRÍA! 

Lo que todos sabemos no es necesario repetirlo, pero sí es clave reiterar que este 2020 fue un año atípico, y se nos vino encima un mes de diciembre que dependerá de nuestra responsabilidad y cuidado, para poder disfrutarlo con el regalo más importante en esta época de pandemia: la salud.

Desde el mes de marzo, cuando fue declarada la emergencia sanitaria por el gobierno del presidente Iván Duque, la incertidumbre se apoderó de todos, con el correr de los meses, el dilema entre la vida o la estabilidad económica del país se hizo más fuerte, se establecieron medidas de autocuidado y reactivación económica, pero lo cierto es que en muchas ciudades del país las personas empezaron a relajarse y las cifras de contagio han aumentado.

Una muestra de ello, es la realidad que vive hoy la ciudad de Cúcuta, pues su ocupación de camas UCI se encuentra casi al 100%, lo cual es un reflejo de la pérdida del temor al COVID-19.  Más grave aún, es que está en juego la vida de las personas más vulnerables, como los adultos mayores y los héroes en primera línea de batalla -los médicos, enfermeras y personal de la salud-, quienes dedican sus vidas para salvar y proteger a las personas contagiadas por este inesperado virus.

Con la llegada de las festividades decembrinas, la preocupación por el aumento en los contagios es evidente, tanto que las autoridades de salud en Norte de Santander ya prendieron sus alarmas.  En este momento es donde la prioridad debe ser mantenernos sanos y en familia, si hemos logrado aguantar casi 9 meses de distanciamiento, con el uso del tapabocas y limitando al máximo las actividades sociales, seguramente lograremos llegar al 2021 hasta la llegada de la vacuna a Colombia.

En una columna anterior nos referimos a las proyecciones de la vacuna, pero hoy el panorama se ha disipado, tanto a nivel mundial como en el país; desde el anuncio de Pfizer los laboratorios han enfilado toda la maquinaria de producción para dar respuesta a las necesidades de los gobiernos. En Colombia se espera que para el primer semestre de 2021 se puedan vacunar inicialmente a 15 millones de los 49 millones de habitantes: 10 millones a través del mecanismo Covax y 5 millones por compras bilaterales.

Para ello, el Gobierno colombiano giró 437.188 millones de pesos con los cuales se esperan adquirir 10 millones de dosis, que serán aplicadas con prelación al personal de la salud, a los mayores de 60 años y a las personas que conviven con comorbilidades (hipertensión, diabetes, alteraciones de la inmunidad, obesidad, entre otras), pues en ellos, es donde se concentran la mayoría de los casos severos y muertes por Covid-19.

Todas estas noticias son magníficas y constituyen una buena razón para ser optimistas sobre el futuro. Pero Peter Openshaw, profesor de medicina experimental en el Imperial College de Londres, advierte que sería un “terrible error” suavizar las medidas de control de la Covid-19 en este momento.  Así que no tire su mascarilla ni corra a abrazar a su abuela todavía.

Las vacunas contra la Covid-19 han batido este récord por un amplio margen, ya que han tardado menos de un año en desarrollarse. Pero eso no significa que se hayan tomado atajos inapropiados.
