“Hay que pensar en volver a tener relaciones con Venezuela, reabrir la frontera y desarrollar todo el sector minero, agrícola e industrial que tiene tanto potencial en Norte de Santander”, dijo el economista.
Agregó que es evidente que hay un problema en el tratamiento que se le ha venido dando a la frontera, sobre todo a esas diferencias entre Venezuela y Colombia, que no le sirven de nada a Cúcuta y Norte de Santander.
“Hemos conversado con autoridades políticas, con muchos empresarios y vamos a estar recorriendo barrios desplegando esta consecución de firmas por todo Norte de Santander. Me han dicho los empresarios que hay un grave problema de transporte y de vías, que eso los ofusca muchísimo”, aseveró.
El exfuncionario, al que Juan Manuel Santos le aceptó su renuncia al cargo en el año 2012, y que, además, fue presidente de Ecopetrol, pretende avalar su candidatura mediante dicha modalidad a pesar de estar ligado al partido Conservador.
“Las firmas son una forma de recorrer todo el país, de hablar y escuchar a la gente para conocer sus problemas. Además, soy una persona que tengo que darme a conocer porque estoy compitiendo contra otras de mucha trayectoria y de más campañas políticas encima”, aseguró.
Frente a las problemáticas que hoy aquejan al país, el político de 58 años que conoce muy bien la economía del territorio nacional, aseguró que este momento coyuntural es fundamental para darle un giro de 180 grados a las políticas públicas de desarrollo que desde siempre se han implementado en la nación.
“Tenemos una oportunidad inigualable, y es que el petróleo, que nos ha dado tanto durante cuarenta años para hacer muchas cosas en Colombia, va a empezar a declinar. De manera que, si nosotros orientamos lo empresarial y lo financiero, podremos darle una nueva turbina al país”, manifestó el candidato.
