Esta semana, la Corte Suprema de Justicia ordenó la captura del senador Eduardo Pulgar, a quien el periodista Daniel Coronell le dedicó un par de columnas en las que ponía en evidencia cómo el congresista había intentado sobornar a un juez.
Aunque en un principio se pensó que no iba a pasar nada con esta denuncia, como suele ser costumbre en el país, la Corte demostró una vez más su independencia y ordenó la captura de Pulgar, a quien sus amigos del Congreso querían salvarle el pellejo argumentando que la única autorizada para investigarlo y juzgarlo era la famosa Comisión de Acusaciones (o más bien de Absoluciones) de la Cámara.
Coronell, de lejos el mejor columnista del país, demostró, con su impecable pluma y sus acuciosas investigaciones, que el periodismo sí es y tiene que ser, además, el contrapoder en este país.
Lastimosamente, hacer periodismo de investigación vale y vale mucho. Por eso, las salas de redacción de este país se han convertido en espacios en los que la lucha por el click se ha apoderado de los periodistas y sus apuestas ya no son por investigaciones de largo aliento, sino por la noticia light que genere tráfico en las páginas web de sus medios. Por esto, además, es que lo que le pasa al reconocido ‘influencer’ La Liendra se viraliza más que la investigación que logra llevar a la cárcel a un senador. Querámoslo aceptar o no, en Colombia la bobada vende y el periodismo de investigación incomoda.
Un ejemplo de esto es lo que ha pasado recientemente con la revista Semana, que cayó en manos de los Gilinski, reconocidos banqueros para los que lo único que importa es la monetización de sus inversiones, así ello pase por acabar con un patrimonio del periodismo nacional.
Desde que los nuevos dueños agarraron la revista, no solo la calidad periodística de la misma se ha visto afectada, sino que sus principales referentes se han ido, quedando en manos de Vicky Dávila, para quien lo único que pareciera importar es inundar las redes con tendencias superfluas y afines, sin lugar a dudas, al establecimiento.
Atrás quedó la Semana que lograba hacerle contrapeso a los mandatarios de turno. Atrás quedó la Semana que era capaz de ‘tumbar’ ministros y congresistas. Atrás quedó la Semana que ponía a temblar a los mafiosos de este país. Atrás quedó la Semana donde se hacía periodismo.
Carlos Martínez, periodista salvadoreño de El Faro, dijo alguna vez en un evento en Bogotá, que el verbo rector del periodismo debería ser investigar. Si alguien se dice periodista y no investiga, no puede considerársele como tal.
En Cúcuta, donde hay dos universidades públicas que cada semestre gradúan a decenas de jóvenes comunicadores sociales, lastimosamente no se están formando periodistas de investigación. Es algo que no gusta, que no atrapa, que no da plata. Por eso, es común que todos estos jóvenes sueñen con ejercer su profesión en jefaturas de prensa de empresas privadas o en el sector oficial, donde el esfuerzo es mínimo, pero muy bien remunerado.
Y aquí viene otro de los principales problemas de hacer periodismo de investigación: no solo es costoso, sino muy mal pago. Ser periodista es una vocación, a veces, al mismo nivel de una vocación sacerdotal, para la cual se debe renunciar a todo por nada. Un periodista difícilmente es millonario. Un periodista difícilmente tiene dinero. Un periodista difícilmente puede darse lujos. Por eso, en Cúcuta, hay que desconfiar más de aquellos periodistas que ostentan grandes fortunas y apoyar más a los que en silencio, sin las luces de los reflectores y el abrazo de los políticos, se juegan la vida en una sala de redacción tratando de revelarle a usted lo que los poderosos no quieren que sepa. A esos, mi respeto. A los otros, todo mi desprecio.
