COLOMBIA, ¿UN PAÍS CADA VEZ MENOS POBRE?

Por estos días es noticia nacional el informe entregado por el Departamento Nacional de Estadística DANE, según el cual el índice de pobreza multidimensional disminuyó durante el año 2021 al descender a 39,3% de la población, luego de haber estado en 42,5% en el 2020; mientras en el primer año de pandemia la población declarada en estado de pobreza era de 21 millones de colombianos, en  la vigencia anterior pasó a 19,6 millones, lo que significa que presentó una disminución de aproximadamente millón y medio de ciudadanos. Esto quiere decir que, alrededor 19 millones y medio de personas subsisten durante un mes con menos de 70 dólares (283.828 pesos), equivalentes a 2,5 dólares diarios (más o menos 9.800 pesos). En otras palabras, quien tenga 10.000 pesitos al día para cubrir sus necesidades básicas como alimentación, salud, vivienda, servicios públicos, transporte, educación, entre otros, ya no es considerado pobre y, por tanto, ya no hace parte de este grupo de compatriotas.

Ahora bien, vale la pena preguntarse: ¿Para qué le alcanzan a cualquier colombiano 9.800 pesos en un día? ¿Con la actual especulación de precios en la canasta familiar son suficientes 10.000 pesos para que una persona (niño, joven o adulto) pueda alimentarse, sana y equilibradamente, consumiendo tres raciones diarias? ¿Acaso el ‘corrientazo’ más económico no oscila por encima de los siete mil pesos? ¿El precio de transportarse en una buseta de servicio público en la ciudad de Cúcuta no es de 2.400 pesos desde diciembre del año pasado? Esto implica que muchos coterráneos tendrán que debatirse entre dos o más decisiones: “o como algo… o me subo en una buseta para poder ir a la EPS y ser atendido…”, por ejemplo.

Tras el retorno a la presencialidad, he sido testigo de múltiples signos de desigualdad social en la ciudadela de Juan Atalaya: niños y niñas que asisten al colegio con su estómago vacío, no solo porque no desayunaron temprano en la mañana, antes de iniciar clases, sino, además, porque en la noche anterior, tampoco hubo dinero para poder comprar alimentos y cenar… Chiquitines que asisten a la escuela con zapatos que “se ríen” cuando reciben este nombre, pues a causa de tanto uso ya no cumplen la función de calzar los pies; los llamados “cinturones de pobreza” son cada vez más extensos en las franjas externas de la ciudad. Me asombra descubrir cuántas nuevas zonas de “invasión” se establecieron durante la pandemia y, más aún, cuántos kilómetros deben caminar nuestros muchachos para llegar a tiempo a la Institución.

Considero que la realidad, factible y evidenciable, no coincide con las cifras ni con los datos estadísticos. Valdría la pena preguntarle al DANE y al Gobierno Nacional si ellos consideran que 2 dólares y medio subvencionan realmente las necesidades de nuestros niños, jóvenes o adultos mayores, si con esta pírrica cifra un colombiano de a pie puede tener una vida digna, resolver sus penurias y solventar las carencias de su familia. Ante nuestros ojos son muchos los cuerpos que padecen y, sencillamente, nos hemos acostumbrado tanto a esto, que se nos hace aceptable y admisible.
