Hace unos años salí de mi ciudad para hacer mi carrera profesional, una con la que ninguna universidad de Cúcuta contaba; sin embargo, cada puente, o vacaciones que podía, volvía a mi casa, a ver a mi familia, a mis amigos y a comer pastel de garbanzo. Siempre que regresaba a Bogotá terminaba por llenarme de cosas típicas cucuteñas para compartir con mis amigos en el interior. Sin duda alguna todos quedaban fascinados con el sabor de unos buenos cortados, unos pirulines llenos de chocolate, unas hayacas que hacían ver mal al tamal que se come en la capital y, por supuesto, lo crujiente de nuestro sombrerito.
Así logré mostrar lo hermoso de la cultura cucuteña a aquellos que me molestaban por venir de “provincia”, que me decían que este hermoso rincón ya era Venezuela, que me decían que era brava y que hablaba duro, entre otros estigmas que están bien mientras sea con respeto y que también es lo que parece mostrar nuestra ciudad al resto del país.
Al iniciar la pandemia, muchos de los que vivimos en la capital volvimos a casa a pasar la cuarentena con los nuestros y me topé con la sorpresa de que los estigmas con los que tanto me molestaron en la universidad, son el pensamiento de muchos cucuteños, de los cuales incluso escuché decir que “Cúcuta no tenía nada bueno”.
Soy fiel creyente de que la autocrítica es la base para enfrentar y solucionar los problemas, y con esto los cucuteños debemos ser muy conscientes de que la realidad de nuestra ciudad está permeada por múltiples problemáticas, entre estas la inseguridad, el malestar en las vías, la falta de desarrollo industrial, entre otras. Sin embargo, quejarse y decir que no hay nada en Cúcuta, sin proponer o hacer algo por ella, raya en el facilismo y la mediocridad.
Más allá de nuestro famoso pastel de garbanzo o el delicioso mute, contamos con otras maravillas, por ejemplo, ¿qué otra ciudad del mundo tiene una Avenida 0?, en dónde más puedes entablar conversación en cada esquina de la calle, la ciudad que aprendió a vivir del comercio, que manejaba tres y cuatro monedas al tiempo, en donde su gente más allá de gritar también sonríe, la ciudad del café más antiguo del país, la casa del “Hombre de las leyes” y de la primera Constitución de la República, la que en mi concepción recuperó uno de los miradores más hermosos del país y la ciudad pionera en aviación. Lo más importante, la ciudad que nos vio crecer, que nos brindó costumbres como almorzar sancocho en familia los sábados, bailar con La Billo’s y Los Melódicos en diciembre, desayunar con hayacas los domingos y llegar al General Santander a ver al doblemente glorioso desde las dos de la tarde; en fin, la ciudad en la que todo el mundo se rebusca y trabaja desde antes de que salga el sol.
Puedo dar testimonio de lo que esta ciudad causa en la gente que viene de afuera. Mi padre vino de Italia y aquí se enamoró, trabajó y vivió los últimos veinticinco años de su vida, adoptó los colores rojo y negro y lloró con nuestra liga en el 2006, también se reía de nuestro típico humor negro y resaltaba el “buen vividero” que es. Por eso para mí son más las cosas buenas que tiene Cúcuta para ofrecer que las malas, empecemos por amar lo nuestro, por resaltar nuestras maravillas, por aportar al crecimiento del portón de la frontera, por generar oportunidades de educación y trabajo para nuestros jóvenes y si para esto hay que tomarnos los escenarios políticos, de opinión y culturales para ver un cambio, pues lo hacemos.
