NOS IMPORTA EL FUTURO

Me gusta leer sobre las personas en el mundo que están preocupadas por construir su futuro, y entre esas están los grandes magnates, los líderes del mundo y las potencias.

Hace un poco más de 20 años, en un experimento de la Universidad de Harvard, lograron analizar que, de un determinado número de personas, solo el 5% de quienes habían hecho un plan de vida y lo habían puesto en práctica, habían logrado destacarse y ser exitosos.

Ahora bien, esa preocupación por el futuro no está solamente en los grandes, también ocurre en la gente del común, nosotros los de a pie; recuerdo cuando fui a comprarles los útiles escolares a mi hijo una vez en Panamericana; curiosamente, cuando voy a la caja a realizar el pago, la cajera me da un libro rojo; y de inmediato en mi creencia limitante, pensé en ese momento que estaban ponchados con el libro, y esa era la razón por la cual lo estaban obsequiando.

Varios meses después encontré aquel libro en mi biblioteca y me dio curiosidad leerlo, el libro se titula “¡Basta de historia!” de Andrés Oppenheimer, y me causó mucha impresión al ver las conclusiones del libro, que tienen que ver con la forma de pensar de este lado del mundo y la forma en la que piensan los asiáticos, estudian y se capacitan; contrarrestado con América Latina, donde la educación se concentra en recordar los próceres, en el otro lado del mundo se concentran en analizar cómo se ve el futuro y para dónde va.

Hay un dato curioso por destacar, y es que, mientras en Colombia existen días festivos, cortes y recesos de descanso (19 festivos) en las instituciones educativas en América latina que en promedio estudian 154 días; en Asia y otras potencias, por ejemplo, en Japón, estudian casi 263 días, y ahí tiene que ver mucho con la construcción del futuro, y entonces, no es que ellos sean más inteligentes, es que tienen mayor disciplina y pasan más tiempo nutriéndose de conocimiento. Hay una tela larga por cortar acá con el tema de la educación y los patrones de comportamiento de todo el sector que luego abordaré en otro momento.

De lo anterior, hay una conclusión, y está relacionada con el resultado de lo que planean para su vida los latinoamericanos, ya que son más cortoplacistas e inmediatos, sobre todo en regiones como la nuestra; por ejemplo, la cultura de Norte de Santander cuenta con algunos empresarios (no la mayoría), pero sí algunos, que son comerciantes de sus productos, y a veces la prioridad es solo el flujo de caja de día. Pocos industriales trascienden en una visión de largo plazo y en la profundización de su valor agregado como estrategia autónoma de competitividad. ¿Qué es más importante? Algunos contestarán, si no tengo plata en el día a día no puedo pensar en un futuro y no le toman valor a este, sin embargo, el verdadero valor radica en que es mejor tener una visión y construir un futuro para ella, a no tenerla. Si te preguntaras qué tienes en mente para este día, semana, mes año, 5 años, 10 años, ¿cuáles serían tus respuestas?

Al embajador de Indonesia, en uno de los viajes que realicé con mucho esfuerzo en una decisión atrevida, le escuchaba una lección supremamente interesante, relacionada con lo que hoy les estoy contando: “Nosotros logramos trascender y ser una potencia mundial cuando pusimos en marcha tres pasos: 1. construir la visión, 2. creer en ella y 3. ponerla en marcha”.

Es importante recordar que en esa visión se debe generar sentido de vida, porque permite que las personas sean más productivas, pero además porque es necesario que sigamos educando a nuestros hijos y jóvenes para que pasen del efecto inmediato que genera la dopamina, en el que quieren que sea ya; a un efecto más duradero que genera la oxitocina, y es que encuentren felicidad en cumplir metas y sobre todo, para que en el entorno se aprenda a vigilar el futuro, que tenga una visión de largo plazo y que genere en ellos y en los empresarios (sobre todo de esta región), sentido de liderazgo de largo plazo, cambiando la estructura comercial hacia una industrial de alto valor agregado, donde cubra un rumbo de futuro de negocio, pero que también le genere al territorio una estructura de ciclo de vida útil, por lo que es importantísimo tener claro que nos debe importar el futuro, no para vivir en él, sino para aprender a construirlo día a día con cada decisión que tomemos.
