De unos años para acá se ha acelerado el proceso de construcción de estaciones de servicio en el departamento. Hay quienes sostienen que se trata de un incremento relacionado con la necesidad de gasolina en el proceso productivo de la hoja de coca en el Catatumbo, por lo cual si es bastante sospechosa la cantidad de estaciones que se han instalado en la vía Cúcuta Tibú. Pero así haya algo de cierto en esta apreciación, la realidad es que se trata de un florecimiento apenas natural, producto de la poca o nula disponibilidad del anhelado combustible venezolano que nos alimentó por tantas décadas. Durante todos los años desde el boom de la industria petrolera en Venezuela y el derroche irresponsable de los gobiernos de ese país que permitieron prácticamente regalar la gasolina a un pueblo que se acostumbró a vivir de lo subsidiado, los nortesantandereanos nos preciamos durante muchos años de contar con la gasolina mas barata y de mejor calidad de Colombia. Ya fuera de forma ilegal con los famosos pimpineros, o de forma legal (los pocos años que se pudo tanquear en las estaciones internacionales), nuestra economía funcionó mucho tiempo con ese combustible económico que nos hizo creer que siempre sería así. Pues bien, la irresponsabilidad y el terrible manejo macroeconómico de nuestros vecinos venezolanos, que pulverizó su moneda y prácticamente dolarizó su economía de facto, en apenas un par de años, trajo consigo lo que nuestros ojos nunca pensaron ver. El país con las mayores reservas de crudo del mundo, no logra producir su propia gasolina en las cantidades necesarias e incluso ahora es que la llevan de acá para allá de forma ilegal. Es así como el famoso cupo de gasolina subsidiada que se inventó el gobierno colombiano hace ya varios años para luchar infructuosamente contra ese contrabando de combustible venezolano en las zonas de frontera está perdiendo su razón de ser, y se quedó en el imaginario colectivo como una especie de obligación con esta olvidada región que se aferra a su pasado de gasolina barata como si fuera un derecho divino. La realidad es que al final de cada mes, las filas para tanquear en las estaciones de servicio de Cúcuta que logran conservar algo del cupo de combustible subsidiado, se hacen cada vez más largas. El gobierno nacional parece no estar dispuesto a aumentar el cupo de combustible subsidiado para el departamento al mismo ritmo en que se incrementa el consumo que crece año tras año con una alta tasa de motorización, y con más estaciones de servicio abriendo día tras día compitiendo por el mismo cupo de combustible subsidiado, lo que puede terminar pasando es que el gobierno nacional un buen día decida cortar por lo sano y elimine de una vez por todas el subsidio al combustible. Habrá que ver si como región entendamos que tenemos que aprender a competir en igualdad de condiciones con las demás regiones del país y con el mundo, o si no logremos salir del atraso mental en el que a veces nos encerramos solos. Yo lo que si creo que va a pasar es que vamos a pelear bastante cuando nos quiten el subsidio al combustible, pero después de nos olvida, como todo…
