LA MIGRACIÓN ILEGAL DE COLOMBIANOS

Es preocupante el número de colombianos que ha decidido arriesgarse y aventurarse de manera ilegal por el “hueco”, forma en la que comúnmente se apoda a la frontera entre México y EE.UU. Miles de colombianos deciden abandonar todo e intentan migrar a como dé lugar, buscando oportunidades y anhelando el sueño americano, algo que muchos latinos, y en especial colombianos, desean para ser prósperos y ayudar a sus familias, atrapadas en la desigualdad, pobreza, violencia y escasas oportunidades en nuestro país.

 

Según el último informe revelado por la Oficina de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza de la Unión Americana de EE.UU. (CBP por su sigla en inglés), cuyos datos muestran que el flujo de personas de nacionalidad colombiana que intentan migrar de manera ilegal a ese país, ha aumentado desde el 2019 un 36.000%; siendo el 2022 el año en que se ha roto el récord de connacionales capturados por la patrulla fronteriza; solamente en marzo de este año, más de 15 mil colombianos fueron detenidos cuando trataban de entrar ilegalmente a los Estados Unidos.

 

En abril se registró un nuevo récord de cruces ilegales en la frontera con México. De los 234.088 migrantes, un 5,5%, es decir, cerca de 13.000, fueron colombianos. Las cifras para mayo del presente año se estiman consistentes con las de abril. De acuerdo con datos oficiales, todos los días cruzan 7.400 migrantes, lo que para final de mes representaría 230.000 cruces.

 

El informe presentado por Estados Unidos dejó en evidencia también que la frontera por la que más ingresan colombianos es la sur, especialmente por el desierto de Arizona, por lo que, como medida para hacerle frente, ambos países firmaron un acuerdo para recibir a nacionales expulsados a través del polémico Título 42. Sin embargo, el 23 de mayo de este año y gracias a la gestión de la administración de Joe Biden, se puso fin al polémico Título, impuesto por el expresidente republicano Donald Trump, que les permitía remover personas de manera exprés y sin el debido trámite migratorio alegando que la pandemia del Covid-19 había generado una emergencia sanitaria en el país.

 

Desde que entró en vigor el Título 42, se han expulsado a más de 2.000 colombianos de Estados Unidos.

Con la finalización de este acuerdo, se estima que el número de personas intentando cruzar la frontera podría aumentar exponencialmente.

 

Otro dato que revela el informe de la CBP es que Colombia se ubicó en el sexto lugar en la lista de países generadores de éxodos migratorios hacia Estados Unidos. Entre ellos México y Cuba siguen siendo los mayores impulsadores de migrantes, así como Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua y El Salvador. Colombia compite en números con el país hermano de Venezuela, que el año pasado reportaba para diciembre un promedio de 25 mil nacionales intentando cruzar la frontera. Debido al éxodo venezolano, la administración de Biden decidió imponer el uso del visado para personas provenientes de Venezuela, logrando así reducir para este año un promedio de 4.000 personas migrantes en el 2022.

 

Uno de los factores que ha favorecido el incremento de personas de nuestro país en la frontera con EE.UU., es que para entrar a México no se requiere visado, por lo que muchos colombianos deciden viajar a este país, cruzar la frontera y entregarse a la patrulla fronteriza para solicitar asilo pidiendo iniciar un procedimiento que puede durar años y conservar un status de refugiado mientras se resuelve su estancia.

 

En algunos de los casos, los detenidos exponían sus razones y pedían asilo por diferentes motivos, la mayoría relacionados con temas de seguridad, la violencia acentuada en diferentes partes del país, el desplazamiento forzado, la carencia de oportunidades laborales, el agudizamiento de la pobreza, la inflación, la desigualdad, el costo de vida y la poca capacidad adquisitiva en Colombia; así como la visión de que el país va de mal en peor, la percepción de un gobierno indolente y la economía fluctuante, hacen que miles de colombianos decidan irse, aventurándose y arriesgándose como ilegales en el extranjero.

 

La migración de colombianos se está convirtiendo en un problema para países como México, por lo cual no nos alarmemos si en algunos meses nos imponen medidas de restricción para ingresar a su país, como visado.

Observar colombianos caminando en medio del desierto con un morral lleno de esperanzas, anhelando el “sueño americano”, nos hace reflexionar en la cantidad de talentos que estamos dejando ir y que nuestro país necesita.
